Our subteam works on the car's handling and terrain performance. We assemble components like the arms, shocks, steering knuckles, and rear bearing carriers while using simulations, calculations, and welding to refine the system.

UCalgary Baja brings together students across engineering, software, data, fabrication, and business to build a race-ready off-road vehicle from the ground up.
How we build
Every subsystem has an owner. Every member has a way in.
Each subteam focuses on a specific area of the vehicle or organization, but no group works alone. Design reviews, testing, manufacturing, data, logistics, and competition prep all overlap into one shared build cycle.
Chassis
Our subteam designs and manufactures the skeleton of the car, integrating every subsystem while protecting the driver. Members learn welding, tube coping, tube bending, packaging, and structural design.
Ergonomics
Our subteam improves driver comfort, increases the number of eligible drivers, and reduces fatigue by optimizing the seat, headrest, pedals, and pedal foot rests.
Steering
Our subteam designs the steering behavior of the car, including turning radius, rack-and-pinion ratio, and driving response. We use FEA analysis and CNC machining to improve driving dynamics.
Powertrain
Our subteam transfers power to the rear wheels and driveshaft through the gearbox, bevel gearbox, CVT, propshaft, rear axles, rear brakes, and rear hubs.
Final Drive
Our subteam designs, tests, and manufactures the 4WD system, including the differential, axles, hubs, and brakes that deliver power to the terrain.
Telemetry
Our subteam wires sensors and transmits real-time data from the vehicle, allowing the team to monitor performance and diagnose issues during testing.
Data Acquisition
Our subteam integrates sensors and manages the vehicle's wiring system to accurately collect, store, and analyze performance data after testing.
Software
Our subteam builds this site, supports simulation workflows, gathers onboard vehicle data, and maintains internal club storage systems.
Business
Our subteam develops sponsorship relationships, creates social media content, runs marketing campaigns, arranges travel, handles payments, and manages team merchandise.
